Who’s Next? Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 – Final Voting Results

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 will be announced today. This year, we have received a total of  2,045 responses in the “Who’s Next?” voting. The majority of our readers think an American chemist will be honored (49 %), followed by Europe with 29 % and Asia with 19 %.

Biochemistry is considered the most likely field of research to be awarded by far (51 %), with materials/polymers coming in at 9 %, organic chemistry at 8 %, and physical chemistry as well as computational/theoretical chemistry at ca. 7 % each.

Our readers have suggested 604 different possible Laureates. The top ten suggestions were:

  • Karl Deisseroth
  • Shankar Balasubramanian
  • Omar M. Yaghi
  • Omar Farha
  • David Klenerman
  • John Jumper
  • Franz-Ulrich Hartl

The list of reader suggestions also includes the 2024 Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine, Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, and the 2024 Nobel Laureates in Physics, John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton. About 11 % of participants think the winner will be a woman.
