Highlighting the outstanding contributions of Larry E. Overman, University of California, Irvine, USA, and celebrating the launch of his autobiography, published in the book series “Lives in Chemistry” on behalf of the History of Chemistry Division of the German Chemical Society (GDCh).
In this virtual symposium, Larry Overman introduces the book, followed by talks from his former group members Martin Oestreich, TU Berlin, Germany, and Nobel Prize winner David MacMillan, Princeton University, USA. The event is moderated by Anne Nijs and Pilar Calleja Ramos, Editors of the Chemistry Europe journal European Journal of Organic Chemistry (EurJOC).
Larry Overman’s research focuses on developing new chemical reactions, particularly transition metal-catalyzed syntheses of organic natural products. He is renowned for the Overman rearrangement and Claisen rearrangements of allylic alcohols for synthesizing allylic trichloroacetimidates.
