How to Find the Most Important Research Amid the Growing Number of Publications?

Author: Angewandte Chemie, ChemistryViews

The German Chemical Society (GDCh) und Wiley-VCH launch Angewandte Chemie Novit, a highly selective, premium journal with a unique selection process to give the best research extra visibility.

Increasing Numbers of Published Articles

Founded in 1887, Angewandte Chemie has a stellar reputation as one of the world’s leading scientific journals. As the flagship journal of the German Chemical Society (GDCh), it publishes high-quality, high-impact research across all fields of fundamental and applied chemistry.

Year by year, the journal receives a record number of submissions: In 2024, over 25.000 manuscripts were submitted, and more than 4.500 articles were published in Angewandte Chemie. Out of these high-quality and high-impact articles, almost 700 received a “Very Important Paper” (VIP) rating. Introduced in 1999, this rating classifies and highlights those articles that are a critical contribution to the advancement of chemistry by at least two referees.

But for an overview, 700 articles is still a lot. How can we keep track of the most important advances in chemical research in a world where the number of published articles increases year by year?

Research You Do Not Want to Miss

Angewandte Chemie Novit is a highly selective journal dedicated to elevating the most significant chemistry research, inspiring discourse, and stimulating further research in important and emerging areas of chemistry.

To truly select and highlight the most significant research, no direct submissions are possible. Instead Angewandte Chemie Novit will draw on the wide body of high-quality research submitted to Angewandte Chemie. In a unique, multi-step manuscript selection process involving referees, in-house editors, and advisory editors, suitable articles out of this already highly-selective group of manuscripts are selected.

The authors of these hand-selected manuscripts will be invited to publish their articles in Angewandte Chemie Novit. The final choice lies with the authors: They can either accept the offer for up-transfer to Angewandte Chemie Novit and benefit from elevated visibility and exclusive promotional activities, or they can choose the traditional route and publish their work in Angewandte Chemie, one of the top journals in chemistry.

“2025 opens a new and exciting chapter in the history of Angewandte Chemie.”
—Charlotte Gers-Panther (Executive Editor of Angewandte Chemie)

Owned by the GDCh and Open Access

Angewandte Chemie Novit publishes all articles open access under Creative Commons licenses. During the launch period, this feature will be available to all authors at no additional cost.

The new journal is also fully owned by the GDCh, managed by the Wiley-VCH editorial team, and supported by the Angewandte Chemie Council, Scientific Advisory Committee, and International Advisory Board.
