Wissenschaftsforum: B. Albert Incoming GDCh President
Professor Barbara Albert, Techincal University Darmstadt, Germany, takes over the presidency of the GDCh (German Chemical Society, Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker) from January 2012. She will be the first woman President of the GDCh.
Here, she talks about the GDCh Wissenschaftsforum in Bremen.
Barbara Ruth Albert is professor at the Technische Universität Darmstadt. She studied chemistry in Bonn, Germany, and received her PhD in 1995, with Professor Martin Jansen. This was followed by research at the Materials Research Lab. of the University of California at Santa Barbara, USA, with Professor A. K. Cheetham and at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Germany, with Professor J. Beck. She completed her habilitation (Bonn, 2000), and took up a deputy chair (Gießen), before she accepted an offer of a full professorship for solid-state chemistry and materials science in Hamburg, Germany. From there she moved to her current position.
Her awards include a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt foundation, a Lise-Meitner grant, the ADUC, and the Bennigsen-Foerder award.
