Car Sharing with Fuel-Cell Cars

Car Sharing with Fuel-Cell Cars

Author: ChemistryViews.org

The newly founded subsidiary of the Linde Group, Linde Hydrogen Concept, launched the world’s first car sharing service to exclusively use hydrogen-powered fuel-cell cars under the brand name BeeZero. The BeeZero fleet will comprise fifty Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell cars. They will be available in the city center of Munich, Germany, and also in the areas of Schwabing, Haidhausen, Au, and Glockenbachviertel.

As with conventional car sharing services, the cars can be easily booked online or via a smartphone app. The fuel-cell vehicles can travel 400 km on a single tank. Unlike battery-powered electric cars, the hydrogen vehicles are also ideal for medium-distance journeys, not only for short trips in the city. Unless the customer chooses otherwise, the cars will be refueled by BeeZero employees. The hydrogen fuel is sourced exclusively from sustainable production processes, making it completely carbon neutral.

Linde is applying for project funding to the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIIP II), an initiative run by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. This co-funding would enable the project’s range and scope to be substantially enlarged.
