Israel Journal of Chemistry
Special Issue: Ribosome Chemistry
Guest Editors: Rita Berisio, David Baram
In October 2009, the Swedish Academy of Science awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A. Steitz and Ada E. Yonath for their research into the structure and function of the ribosome. The scientific contribution of these three researchers has permitted a description of an extremely complex biological process, such as protein biosynthesis, at a molecular level, using ideas and concepts which are typical of chemistry rather than biology.
In issue 1/2010 of the Israel Journal of Chemistry, a comprehensive view of the ribosome structure, function and inactivation is given by leaders in the ribosome field.
