Graphene Capsules

Graphene Capsules

Author: David Bradley

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science and colleagues at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, have created multilayer composites of graphene oxide and poly(allylamine hydrochloride) using a layer-by-layer approach to generate capsules that have unique permeability properties. The hybrid nano-capsules have a “core-shell” structure and can encapsulate two different small molecules into the core and the shell simultaneously.

Such a technology could be used for novel drug regimens where combinations of different drugs need to be delivered at the same time. The technology might also be used for the transport of targeting or imaging agents together with a therapeutic payload.
