Switzerland is celebrating the International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC2011) with every cup of coffee!
The Swiss company Cremo SA has produced 50 million coffee cream pots with lid designs inspired by chemistry in everyday life. The designs were created by “Platform Chemistry” of the Swiss Academy of Sciences and feature everything from coffee-related molecules such as lactose, caffeine, and sucrose to common plant extracts such as vanilla, geraniol, and menthol.
In addition to the Swiss Stamp design, this is a nice way to promote the value and importance of chemistry to society. Several of the designs are shown below, more can be found on the Swiss IYC2011 page.
