The chemist we are looking for this time was a highly regarded Canadian physical chemist. He or she first studied classics, but later switched to the natural sciences and finished two Ph.D.s in chemistry. However, he or she refused to accept or teach atomic theory. The chemist in question spent most of his or her career at a single university, yet was often involved in arguments with the institution’s administration.
Our scientist was introduced to physical chemistry by Wilhelm Ostwald in Germany and worked on thermodynamics, kinetics, and electrochemistry. After his or her retirement, he or she focused on biochemistry.
