In this issue. F. M. Winnik et al. review fifty years of research on the phase diagrams of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide): PNIPAM. How did it become a leading member of the family of thermoresponsive polymers? In a Minireview, V. L. Deringer and R. Dronskowski discuss surface chemistry and nanocrystals of functional chalcogenides. The Highlight by T. Carell deals with DNA repair, for which this year’s Nobel prize in chemistry was awarded.
In the Communications section, Y. Takeoka et al. describe thermally tunable hydrogels that display angle-dependent structural colors (see picture). Y. Huang et al. succeeded in highly enantioselective aza-Michael reactions between alkyl amines and β-trifluoromethyl β-aryl nitroolefins. W. H. Casey et al. investigate the 2H and 139La NMR spectroscopy in aqueous solutions under geochemical pressures.
