Professor Sumrit Wacharasindhu, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and Dr. Warayuth Sajomsang, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand, have received the Wiley–Chemical Society of Thailand (CST) Award for Contributions to Green Chemistry 2014.
The award was presented at the welcome dinner of the Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference (PACCON 2015) at the Amari Watergate Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand, on January 21, 2015.
Sumrit Wacharasindhu received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. He became Lecturer at Chulalongkorn University in 2007, and Assistant Professor there in 2010. Wacharasindhu has received the TRF-CHE-SCOPUS Researcher Award for Chemical & Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2014 and the Thailand Young Researcher Award in 2012. His research goal is to create methods to prepare organic cornpounds in robust, convenient and environmentally friendly ways with reduced hazardous waste generation. He focuses on heterocyclic compounds and acetylene-based chemicals.

Warayuth Sajomsang received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Kanchanaburi Rajabhat University, Kanchanaburi, Thailand, finished his master’s at Chiang Mai University, Thailand, and his Ph.D. at Chulalongkorn University. Since 2007, he works as Senior Researcher, Nanodelivery System Laboratory (NiDS), National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand. He has received the Rising Star Researcher Award of the Thai Polymer Society in 2014, and the Rising Suns in Asia Award in 2013. Sajomsang’s research is concerned with natural polymers like chitosan, a chitin derivative. The material has unique chracteristics that make it suitable for use in drug delivery systems. |
