Professor Cyrus C. M. Mody, Rice University, Houston, TX, USA, has been awarded the Paul Bunge Prize by the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh; German Chemical Society) and the Deutschen Bunsen-Gesellschaft (DBG; German Bunsen Society) on May 29, 2014, during the 113th Annual Meeting of the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry (Bunsentagung 2014) in Hamburg, Germany. The prize of the Hans R. Jenemann Foundation is worth 7,500 EUR.
Cyrus Mody receives the award for his book entitled “Instrumental Community: Probe Microscopy and the Path to Nanotechnology“, which was published in 2011.
Cyrus Mody studied engineering sciences at Harvard University, Cambridge, USA, and then moved to Cornell University, Ithaca, USA, where he obtained his M.A. in 2001 and his Ph.D. in 2004 in science and technology studies. From 2005–2007 he worked as Program Manager of Nanotechnology and Innovation Studies at the Center for Contemporary History and Policy, Chemical Heritage Foundation, Philadelphia, USA. He was then appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, Rice University, in 2007 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. In this position he teaches the history of science, technology, and engineering.
