Dr. Vishweshwaraiah Prakash, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Mysore, India, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) in partnership with Food ingredients (Fi) Europe. This award is given for significant contributions to the field of Food Science and Technology. The award was presented at the Fi Excellence Awards ceremony on November 19, in Frankfurt, Germany.
Prakash is honored for his contributions to the field of food science and technology over the course of his career. He has developed numerous methods to produce nutritious food from locally available raw materials and allowed small companies to have access to the required technologies. Also, through his positions on the boards of many international food-related organizations, he has played a role in providing nutrition for people in areas where healthy food is scarce.
Vishweshwaraiah Prakash obtained his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Mysore, India. He currently works at the CSIR there, focusing on the areas of food science, food technology, food safety, food and nutrition security, nutritionals and nutraceuticals, and biotechnology.
He has published more than 200 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and has authored four books and 20 review chapters in books and journals. Currently, he is President of the International Society of Nutraceuticals And Nutritionals (ISNAN), the Indian Academy of Nutraceuticals and Nutritionals (IANAN), and the Nutrition Society of India (NSI). Prakesh is also on the executive editorial board of the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.
