In a Review, H. Kisch discusses semiconductor photocatalysis. How can such catalysts be produced and how are they relevant to organic synthesis? The Highlights deal with the semihydrogenation of alkynes (I. N. Michaelides, D. J. Dixon) and the polar/radical cascade synthesis of carbo- and heterocycles (M. Nechab et al.). J. Nørskov and T. Bildgaard embark on the quest for the catalyst genome in an Editorial. In an Author Profile, Achim Müller is interviewed by G. Clever.
In the Communications section, R. Tampé et al. show how the nanomolar interaction and in situ assembly of proteins can be controlled by light (see picture). T. Doert et al. describe the bonding features of CuTe. M. Bochmann et al. succeeded in the synthesis of gold(III) olefin complexes, and F. Meyer et al. produced tetracarbene oxoiron(IV) complexes. D. A. Fulton observed that polymer nanoparticles can be reversibly transformed into a chemically cross-linked hydrogel.
