The fundamentals and bioanalytic aspects of nucleic acid and peptide aptamers are the topic of the Review by M. Mascini et al.: What are the peculiarities of the two major classes of affinity molecules produced by evolutionary approaches? The Highlights deal with main-group metal alkyls (W. Clegg) and a fatigue-resistant protein for optical nanoscopy (G. U. Nienhaus).

In the Communications section, S. Gambarotta et al. present a highly selective catalyst for the tetramerization of ethylene. M. Bonn et al. succeeded in the spatial resolution of the host–guest geometry in zeolite pores by means of CARS spectromicroscopy. The gas-phase structure of aspirin was investigated by J. L. Alonso et al. using microwave spectroscopy. J. Li et al. describe an rht-metal-organic framework with high affinity for gases and strong selectivity for CO2 (see picture).
