The Supervisory Board of LANXESS AG appointed Dr. Axel C. Heitmann (51) as Chairman of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG for a further five years. The new mandate will begin as of July 1, 2012. Heitmann has been Chairman of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG since September 2004.

Dr. Axel Claus Heitmann, born 1959 in Hamburg, Germany,  studied chemistry at Hamburg University and the University of Southampton, UK, obtaining a science doctorate in 1988. He joined Bayer in 1989 where he entered the post-graduate trainee program and later transferred to Bayer plc, UK, as Manager of the Rubber Business Group’s Bromsgrove site. Heitmann held various positions, including Head of Production and Technology at PolymerLatex, the then newly formed joint venture between Bayer AG and Degussa AG. In 2002, he became a member of the Executive Committee of Bayer MaterialScience, and in this capacity was responsible for Bayer MaterialScience’s activities in China from 2002 until the middle of 2004.
On September 16, 2004, Heitmann was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG.
