Fire with water – water with fire was the slogan of the event initiated by the Hungarian Chemical Society (Magyar Kémikusok Egyesülete (MKE)) to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry (IYC 2011). The event was based on the global experiment “Water – a chemical solution”. Several thousand primary and secondary school students participated from 285 schools of 145 municipalities. They carried out experiments related to water and fire on the same day and in parallel.

Additionally, in the Hungarian Museum for Sciences, Technology and Transportation in Budapest special exhibits allow the visitors to explore the beauties of chemistry at first hand.
