In this issue, L. G. O’Neil and J. F. Bower review the role of electrophilic aminating agents in total synthesis. How can they be used strategically? The Minireview deals with electrolyte design for high-energy-density Li-metal batteries under practical conditions (Y. Xia et al.). In an Essay, S. A. Matlin et al. re-imagine the priorities for chemistry to be a central science for humanity‘s “freedom from fear and want”. M. Drieß and P. Comba eulogize Gottfried Huttner as an intellectual craftsman, meaning maker, and generalist.
In the original research section, R. Ameloot et al. describe the chemical vapor deposition of ionic liquids for the fabrication of ionogel films and patterns (see picture). M. C. Willis et al. exploited the configurational lability in aza-sulfur compounds for the organocatalytic enantioselective synthesis of sulfonimidamides. J. Siegel et al. present enantiopure C5-symmetric pentaindenocorannulenes as chiral graphenoid materials, and Z. Chen et al. synthesized red- and far-red-emitting zinc probes with minimal phototoxicity for multiplexed recording of orchestrated insulin secretion.
