The Supervisory Board of BASF has appointed Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner to the Management Board with effect from February 1, 2021. She succeeds Management Board member Wayne T. Smith, who will retire from the board at the end of May 2021. Melanie Maas-Brunner takes over the role of Chief Technology Officer from BASF’s Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Dr. Martin Brudermüller. The move will give Martin Brudermüller more time to focus on BASF’s strategic priorities and his activities as president of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC).
Melanie Maas-Brunner, born in Korschenbroich, Germany, in 1968, studied chemistry at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, and gained her Ph.D. in 1995 from the same university. Before joining BASF in 1997, she started her career as Research Assistant at Aachen University, Germany, and the University of Ottawa, Canada.
Melanie Maas-Brunner held various positions at BASF in Ludwigshafen and Hong Kong. Since 2017, she held the position of President Nutrition & Health.
