In this issue, L. Que Jr. et al. review nonheme iron catalysis. Which recent spectroscopic and mechanistic advances have shed light on the pathways? The Minireviews deal with sulfurized pyrolyzed poly(acrylonitrile) cathode materials for rechargeable lithium batteries (J. Wang et al.) and supramolecular springs (P. Samorì et al.). In an Essay, P. Cintas tells a tale of forms, chemical fossils, and biomorphs, chasing synthetic life.
In the original research section, R. A. Scheck et al. present a chemical probe for dehydrobutyrine. S. Gao et al. succeeded in the total synthesis of farnesin through an excited-state Nazarov reaction. M. Terada et al. developed chiral organosuperbase catalyst which consists of two different organobase functionalities (see picture). G. Hautier et al. statistically analyzed the five Pauling rules in solid-state chemistry and found them to be of limited predictive power.
