Jingdong Zhang, Professor of Chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, passed away on January 9, 2020. Zhang was highly recognized for her contributions to electrochemistry. She worked on nanochemistry and catalysis, as well as scanning tunnelling and atomic force microscopy.
Jingdong Zhang was born in China in 1968. She studied applied chemistry and environmental engineering at Shanghai University, China. Zhang received her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry in 1996 from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the supervision of Erkang Wang. She then served as a Researcher at the ERATO (Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology)-Itaya Electrochemiscopy Project, Sendai, Japan, working with Kingo Itaya, and as a Research Associate at CIAC. In 1998, Zhang joined the Technical University of Denmark, where she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2009 and to Full Professor in 2016.
Zhang received the Agnes and Betzy Award from the Danish Society of Engineers in 2011. She was a Member of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), of the Danish Natural Science Academy (Danmarks Naturvidenskabelige Akademi, DNA), and of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (Akademiet for de Tekniske Videnskaber, ATV). Among other commitments, Zhang served on the Editorial Board of ChemElectroChem.
