Angewandte Chemie 32/2019: Directions

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, D. Maiti et al. review access to remote meta– and para-C(sp2)–H bonds with covalently attached directing groups. What directing groups were reported in the last few years? The Minireviews deal with automated de-novo synthesis (G. Schneider, D. E. Clark), quantum dot assembly for light-driven multielectron redox reactions (L.-Z. Wu et al.) and the mechanism of nonenzymatic template copying with imidazole-activated nucleotides (J. W. Szostak et al.). In their Guest Editorial, O. Koepler et al. advocate the creation of research data infrastructure as a cultural change in chemistry.

In the original research section, B. Oller-Salvia and J. W. Chin describe efficient phage display with multiple distinct non-canonical amino acids (see picture). A. E. Garcia-Bennett et al. report chiral resolution using supramolecular-templated mesostructured materials. K. Yamaguchi et al. detail selective syntheses of primary anilines from ammonia and cyclohexanones through preferential adsorption of styrene on palladium nanoparticles. S. Grimme et al. introduce structure optimization of large transition-metal complexes with extended tight-binding methods.
