Angewandte Chemie 28/2019: Essentials of Life

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, J. V. Sweedler et al. review fundamental structures of life through non-targeted, chemical analyses of single cells and subcellular structures. What instrumentation improvements and multimodal approaches enhance the chemical coverage of a single cell? The Minireviews deal with metal phosphorous trichalcogenides (M. Pumera et al.) and neutron spectroscopy in organic electronics research (H. Cavaye). In their Guest Editorial, S. Verma et al. celebrate the 30th anniversary of the National Organic Symposium Trust of India. P. Schuster and P. Schwille look back on the life and achievements of the late chemistry Nobel laureate Manfred Eigen.

In the Communications section, Y. Zhao et al. present self-sorting double-network hydrogels with tunable supramolecular handedness and mechanical properties (see picture). N. K. Garg et al. describe a cyclic alkyne approach to heteroatom-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon scaffolds. M. Sattler et al. found that selective inhibitors of FKBP51 employ conformational selection of dynamic invisible states, and K. Tanaka et al. succeeded in the synthesis of a strained spherical carbon nanocage by regioselective alkyne cyclotrimerization.
