In this issue, Z. T. Ball et al. review the metal-mediated functionalization of natural peptides and proteins. What methods exist, and what is their reactivity and selectivity? The Minireviews deal with carbon nitride materials for water splitting photoelectrochemical cells (M. Shalom et al.), alkyl carbon–carbon bond formation by nickel/photoredox cross-coupling (G. A. Molander et al.), and crystalline carbon nitride semiconductors for photocatalytic water splitting (X. Wang et al.).
In the Communications section, J. Luo et al. present bio-inspired stable lithium-metal anodes by co-deposition with a 2D vermiculite shuttle (see picture). S. S. S. Cardoso et al. found a phase-change clock reaction in exploding chemical gardens. A. L. Cortajarena et al. describe a simple approach to design proteins for the sustainable synthesis of metal nanoclusters.
