In this issue, M. M. J. Smulders et al. review the self-assembly of functional discrete three-dimensional architectures in water. How can they be obtained from a fixed number of synthetic components? In Minireviews, W. Yang et al. discuss in situ techniques for the characterization of NiFe-based oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalysts, and S. Neubacher and S. Hennig summarize RNA structure and cellular applications of fluorescent light-up aptamers. In an Essay, J. D. Dunitz critiques bad use of language in chirality descriptions.
In the Communications section, X. Banquy et al. present biomimetic bottlebrush polymer coatings for fabrication of ultralow-fouling surfaces (see picture). M. J. Cowley succeeded in intercepting the disilene–silylsilylene equilibrium, and P. Knochel et al. describe regio- and stereoselective allylic substitutions of chiral secondary alkylcopper reagents in the total syntheses of three ant pheromones.
