In this issue, H.-C. Zhou et al. review switching in metal–organic frameworks (MOF). How do such materials respond to changes in light, temperature, pressure, or exposure to redox species and guests? The Minireviews deal with bottom-up strategies for the synthesis of graphene nanoribbons (J.-F. Morin et al.) and MOF-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (X. W. Lou et al.). T. A. Schaub highlights the bottom-up synthesis of discrete conical nanocarbons.
In the original research section, S. Zhu et al. report a de novo synthesis of hydroxylated benzofuran (see picture). M. Graetzel et al. describe guanine-stabilized formamidinium lead iodide perovskites. A. M. Echavarren et al. succeeded in the total synthesis of waitziacuminone in one step using acetylene as a dicarbene equivalent in gold(I) catalysis. M. W. Fraaije et al. selectively doubly oxidized diols with flavoprotein alcohol oxidase to produce hydroxy acids.
