Abigail “Abby” Sciuto is a fictional forensic scientist in the television series NCIS, played by actress Pauley Perrette. The series features a team of investigators at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. The team solves crimes involving members of the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.

Abby is a very quirky character. She dresses in a gothic style, yet has a very happy attitude. She often works alone in her basement lab and is addicted to caffeine. She owns a stuffed hippo called Bert which provides a running gag for the show by makes fart noises when squeezed. She sometimes anthropomorphizes her lab equipment, speaking to her devices and giving them names, such as “Major Mass Spec” for her mass spectrometer. Her skill set covers both traditional and digital forensics, as well as chemistry.
