Bernd Ondruschka, Professor Emeritus, University of Jena, Germany, celebrates his 70th birthday on July 28, 2017.
Ondruschka’s research focused on technical and environmental chemistry and his interests included non-classical energy sources such as microwaves and ultrasound, alternative solvents, the use of renewable resources, environmentally friendly syntheses of scents and aromas, as well as the development of solid state catalysts.
Bernd Ondruschka studied chemistry and mathematics at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and the University of Leipzig. He received his diploma in theoretical chemistry in Leipzig in 1972 and a Ph.D. in physical-organic chemistry and technical chemistry from the Academy of Sciences of the former German Democratic Republic in Berlin in 1978 and 1989, respectively. From 1997 to 2012, Ondruschka was Professor for Technical and Environmental Chemistry at the University of Jena.
Ondruschka is a Member of the Leibniz Society of Sciences Berlin (Leibniz-Sozietät der Wissenschaften zu Berlin), Germany, Honorary Professor at Jiangsu Polytechnic University, Changzhou, China, and Guest Professor at the Kunming University of Science and Technology, China. He was a Member of the Advisory Board of Chemie Ingenieur Technik and a Member of the Board of Supporting Organizations of Chemical Engineering & Technology.
