In this issue, K. Kohse-Höinghaus et al. review chemistry solutions for propulsion and production by means of advanced biofuels and beyond. How important is linking combustion chemistry with fuel production strategies for sustainable and clean mobility and road transportation? In a Minireview, R.-A. Eichel et al. summarize recent advances in power-to-syngas technology. The Highlights deal with the future of density functional theory (M. Korth) and carbonylations with CO2 as a CO source and reactivity modifier (K. Dong and X.-F. Wu).
In the Communications section, X. Lu et al. show how to increase the energy density of carbon-based aqueous supercapacitors by optimizing the surface charge (see picture). B.-C. Ku et al. describe the signal-induced release of guests from a photolatent metal–phenolic supramolecular cage and its hybrid assemblies. R. E. Winpenny et al. found a Cr8 metallacrown which binds CO2 strongly and selectively, and T. Cantat et al. succeeded in the metal-free synthesis of aromatic sulfones from SO2 and organosilanes.
