Researchers can now make their Ph.D. theses openly accessible through the open-access chemistry journal, ChemistryOpen. The journal features a Thesis Treasury in which summaries of Ph.D. theses can be published with the full Ph.D. thesis provided in the Supporting Information. By providing the Thesis Summary with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and making it available through CrossRef, researchers wanting to cite unpublished results (i.e., data available in a thesis only) can now do so, ensuring that the reader is able to access the material with ease.
No matter when your degree was conferred, publication of a Thesis Summary is still possible. Professor Hamilton Varela, University of São Paulo, Brazil, received his Ph.D. on Spatiotemporal Pattern Formation during Electrochemical Oxidation of Hydrogen on Platinum in 2003 and recently published a summary in Issue 4/2012. Dr. Torben Birk, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, on the other hand received his Ph.D. in 2012 and published a summary in the current issue of ChemistryOpen. Therein, he developed a synthesis route to polynuclear systems with bridging fluorido ligands. By initially anchoring and protecting the fluorido ligand through coordination to a robust metal center (e.g., CrIII), a subsequent construction of more complicated polynuclear structures becomes possible.
If you would like to submit a summary of your Ph.D. thesis, keep in mind that it should be no longer than four pages and have a limited amount of figures. Further, it should list all supervisors and publications arising from the thesis.
