Clarivate has added the Preprint Citation Index™ to the Web of Science™ platform, which now contains almost two million preprints from various repositories such as arXiv, bioRxiv, chemRxiv, medRxiv, and Preprints.org. Throughout 2023, more than a dozen additional repositories will be incorporated.
Preprint records are now discoverable on the Web of Science, along with other scholarly outputs, and are linked to final versions of record when applicable. They are clearly marked in search results and not included in any citation metrics, including Times Cited Counts or the Journal Impact Factor™ (JIF) within the Web of Science Core Collection™ or Journal Citation Reports™.
A preprint is a research paper or scientific manuscript that is made available online before undergoing the peer-review process. Typically, preprints are uploaded to preprint servers, which are publicly accessible online repositories, where other researchers can access and read them. Preprints allow researchers to share their findings with the wider community and receive feedback before their research is published in a peer-reviewed journal.
