Wiley-VCH and strategic brand consultancy Industry have been honored at the German Brand Awards 2023 for their exceptional work in rebranding Chemistry Europe. The project involved revamping a collection of prestigious chemistry journals under the Chemistry Europe brand.
The rebranding effort was recognized in two categories: ‘Brand Design, Corporate Brand’ and ‘Brand Strategy of the Year,’ where it received a Special Mention. An independent panel of experts evaluated 1,300 submissions from 17 countries based on criteria such as brand typology, distinctiveness, competitive differentiation, and relevance to the target audience. Additionally, factors like the quality of the brand’s design, consistency of the brand experience, and the project’s economic success played a significant role in the evaluation process.
Chemistry Europe, founded in 1995, is an association of 16 European chemical societies, representing a community of over 75,000 chemists. ChemistryViews, the magazine of Chemistry Europe, revealed the new logo and name of the organization on March 31, 2020. The rebranding process was a collaborative effort involving stakeholders from the chemical societies and Wiley-VCH, their publishing partner. Throughout the project, input was gathered from researchers and society members to understand their values and requirements for the scientific community and scholarly journals.
The German Brand Awards competition is organized by the German Brand Institute, founded by the German Design Council and GMK Markenberatung. Its purpose is to emphasize the importance of brand management as a key success factor for companies operating in national and international competitive environments.
