The 2024 Bohlmann Lecture was delivered by Eric M. Carreira, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. The lecture is awarded and organized annually at Technische Universität Berlin (TUB, Germany) in honor and memory of the late Ferdinand Bohlmann (1921-1991), an eminent natural products chemist [1]. The lecture is sponsored by Bayer.
Carreira’s lecture focused on discovery and innovation inspired by complex natural products syntheses, such as photo hydrogen atom transfer in isohypsic reactions, ruthenium in stereospecific allylations with enolates, as well as the total synthesis of euphorikanin A, a compound found in traditional Chinese medicine [2].
After the lecture, the prize for the best chemistry dissertation at a Berlin university in 2023 was awarded to Niklas J. Grabicki (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) for his work on curved carbon materials under the supervision of Oliver Dumele (now Universität Freiburg). [3]
Carreira is awarded the lecture certificate by Martin Oestreich, managing director of the TUB Institute of Chemistry.
Carreira delivers the 2024 Bohlmann lecture.
