Professor Lars C. Grabow, University of Houston, TX, USA, joins the editorial team of the flagship journal of Chemistry Europe, ChemistryEurope, starting January 1, 2024. ChemistryEurope is a Gold Open Access journal that disseminates work by international scientists in all areas of chemistry.
Together with Luisa De Cola, Università degli Studi di Milano and Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri, Italy, and Ken Tanaka, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, Lars Grabow will lead and develop the journal as Editors-in-Chief. The three are supported by an Editorial Advisory Board and by professional editors located in the Wiley offices.
Lars C. Grabow studied chemical engineering at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and received his Ph.D. in chemical and biological engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, in 2008. After postdoctoral stays at the Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, and Stanford University, CA, USA, he became a Research Associate at Stanford University in 2010. He joined the University of Houston as Assistant Professor in 2011 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2017. Today, he is Dan Luss Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Professor of Chemistry, and Member of the Texas Center for Superconductivity (TcSUH) at the University of Houston.
Among other awards, Lars Grabow has received the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Early Career Award in 2014, the NSF CAREER Award in 2014/2015, and the Excellence in Research Award at the Assistant Professor level from the University of Houston in 2017. He was elected into the 2018 Class of Influential Researchers by Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (IE&C) Research. Currently, Lars Grabow serves as Editor of Surface Science and on the Editorial Advisory Board of ChemCatChem, among other commitments.
Lars Grabow’s research focuses on the use of computational methods to understand and predict chemical processes that occur on solid-gas and solid-liquid interfaces. In particular, his group’s work covers heterogeneously catalyzed reactions relevant for energy production, energy storage, photocatalysis, pollution mitigation, and the production of useful chemicals. Grabow’s current research topics include methane activation and conversion, unifying principles in hydrotreating catalysis, and vehicle emissions control.
