Felix H. Schacher, University of Jena, Germany, has received the Carl Duisberg Memorial Prize 2020 from the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society). The prize is awarded to chemists up to 40 years of age who do not hold a position as Full Professor but have distinguished themselves through original work.

The award includes an EUR 7,500 endowment and was presented at the virtual Chemiedozententagung 2021 on March 15, 2021. Schacher was honored for his groundbreaking work in the field of polyampholytes and polyelectrolytes.


Felix H. Schacher
was born in 1980. He studied chemistry at the Universities of Bayreuth, Germany, and Lund, Sweden. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Bayreuth in 2009 under the supervision of Axel H. E. Müller. After research stays at the University of Bristol, UK, with Ian Manners and at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan, with Hiroshi Jinnai, Schacher joined the University of Jena in 2010.

Schacher’s research focuses on polymer synthesis. His interests include, e.g., polyelectrolytes, block copolymers, complex colloids, hierarchical structures, and polymer-based membranes.
