Dr. Eva E. Wille, Former Vice President and Executive Director at Wiley-VCH, Weinheim, celebrates her 65th birthday on March 25, 2020.
Eva Elisabeth Wille studied chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Germany, where she received her Ph.D. in 1983 for work supervised by Gerhard Binsch. After postdoctoral work with Dieter Ziessow at the Technical University Berlin, Germany, she joined VCH Verlagsgesellschaft (now Wiley-VCH) in 1985. She has held a range of positions within the company, including Head of the Journals Division and Publishing Director of the Scientific, Technical, and Medical (STM) programs, and was jointly responsible for the development of the Wiley-VCH book series in its iconic blue and white covers. She also worked on the development of ChemPubSoc Europe, an association of 16 European chemical societies, and its chemistry journals program. ChemPubSoc Europe is also owner of ChemViews Magazine. She was Vice President and Executive Director, Chemistry, at Wiley-VCH until her recent retirement.
Eva Wille worked together with many stakeholders in the publishing industry. She was a Board Member of several publishing associations, including the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (association of the German book trade), the Deutsche Fachpresse (association of German business media), and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Zeitschriftenverleger (AGZV, association of German journals publishers).
In 2010, Wille was awarded the Medal of the French Chemical Society (SCF, Société Chimique de France). In 2013, she received the Carl Duisburg Medal from the German Chemical Society (GDCh, Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker) for her contributions to chemistry and European chemical publishing, as well as the ChemPubSocEurope Medal of the Slovak Chemical Society (SCHS, Slovenská chemická spoločnosť). Also in 2013, she was appointed Secretary of the ChemPubSoc Europe Fellows Program. She was awarded Honorary Membership by the Chemical Society of Israel in 2017.
