Professor Christian Amatore, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, France, has been awarded the Lavoisier Medal, the highest honor of the Société Chimique de France (SCF, French Chemical Society). The prize was presented on May 16, 2019, at the SCF award ceremony in Paris. The award honors individuals or institutions who have performed distinguished services to the chemical sciences.
Christian Amatore was born in 1951 in Sidi-Bel-Abbes, Algeria. He studied chemistry at Ecole Normale Supérieure and served as Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Chemistry Department of Ecole Normale Supérieure. From 2007 to 2010, he served as a Member of the High Council of Science and Technology, which advises the French government on scientific matters.
Christian Amatore currently is Emeritus Professor at CNRS and Ecole Normale Supérieure and Distinguished Professor at Xiamen University, China. He is a Member of the French Academy of Sciences, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Academia Europaea, the Third World Academy of Sciences, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and the French Catholic Academy. Among many other honors, he is an Honorary Fellow of ChemPubSoc Europe.
Christian Amatore’s research focuses on electrochemistry, particularly ultramicroelectrodes and electrochemical methods for the investigation of complex mechanisms in organic and organometallic chemistry.
