Professor Brigitte Voit, Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research, Dresden, Germany, has been awarded the Hermann Staudinger Prize 2018 by the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society). The prize was presented at the biennial meeting of the GDCh’s Division of Macromolecular Chemistry in Karlsruhe, Germany, on September 24, 2018.

The award honors outstanding contributions to polymer chemistry. Voit received the prize for her work on dendrimers and hyperbranched polymers, functional polymers, and bioactive polymers, as well as for her involvement in building scientific networks.

Brigitte Voit studied chemistry at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, where she received her Ph.D. in macromolecular chemistry in 1990. After postdoctoral researcher at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY, USA, she became a Research Assistant at the Technical University Munich, Germany, in 1992. She completed her habilitation in macromolecular chemistry in 1996.

In 1997, Voit became Full Professor for Organic Chemistry of Polymers at Technische Universität (TU) Dresden and Head of the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research. Since 2002, she also serves as Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research. Among other honors, Voit has received the Georg Manecke Award from the GDCh in 2000, the Covestro Distinguished Lectureship Award in 2017, and the Saxon Order of Merit in 2017.
