The scientist we are looking for this time was the first to isolate a type of enzyme which cleaves proteins that are important for connective tissue. He or she was born in Austria, but the family emigrated to England in 1938, then to Ireland, and finally to the United States.
Our chemist’s discovery led to a treatment for Dupuytren’s contracture, which causes permanently clenched fingers. He or she created a foundation that aims to find cures for connective tissue diseases.
