The scientist we are looking for this time first studied electrical engineering, then finished a Ph.D. in physics, and finally received the highest honor in chemistry. He or she was born in The Netherlands, studied in Germany, and worked in both of these countries as well as in Switzerland and later in the United States.
Our scientist made many important contributions to physical chemistry. A unit of measurement is named in his or her honor, as well as a number of scientific laws and theories in the areas of heat capacities, X-ray diffraction, electrolytes, and light scattering.
