Professor Konrad Hungerbühler, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, has received the Wöhler Prize for Sustainable Chemistry from the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society). The award honors outstanding contributions to the development of sustainable chemistry and was presented at the GDCh Wissenschaftsforum 2017 in Berlin on September 13, 2017.
Konrad Hungerbühler receives the prize for the development of methods which improve the safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact of chemical processes. His research focuses on the early stages of process and product development.
Konrad Hungerbühler studied chemical engineering at the ETH Zurich, where he received his Ph.D. He joined the central chemical engineering department at Ciba, Basel, Seitzerland, in 1979 and was appointed Professor for Safety & Environmental Technology at the Institute for Chemical and Bio-Engineering of ETH Zurich in 1994.
