The Angewandte Symposium “Bioorganic Chemistry and Chemical Biology” will take place on July 13, 2016, in Siliguri, India, as part of the 19th Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) National Symposium in Chemistry. To commemorate this occasion, Angewandte Chemie is publishing a special issue containing contributions from Indian and German authors.

The issue is introduced by an editorial from Thisbe Lindhorst, President of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society). She explains how the GDCh supports many international collaborations and that scientific exchange has taken place between Germany and India for many years. Chemical research in India has received a large boost in the past decade, as evidenced by the rising numbers of submitted and accepted manuscripts at Angewandte Chemie. The special issue confirms how the GDCh wishes to reinforce its cooperation with the CRSI.

Lindhorst also points out that scientific research is an international activity that crosses borders and brings people together, and that international exchange brings extra value to science. She also urges national chemical societies to dedicate themselves to solving global problems through encouraging sustainable development.
