In this issue, J.-M. Lehn et al. review polyheterocyclic ligand strands that display specifically designed shapes. How do they undergo shape changes on metal cation binding? Also, L. E. Overman et al. review natural product syntheses that involve contiguous stereogenic quarternary carbon atoms. How was progress achieved since the first synthesis of this kind in 1953?
In the Communications section, M. Hong and E. Y.-X. Chen present a metal-free recyclable polyester from a biorenewable γ-butyrolactone (see picture). S. Schulz et al. succeeded in the synthesis and characterization of magnesium-substituted polystibides, and R. G. Compton et al. describe the contact modulation of the mediated current in single-nanoparticle voltammetry. T. W. Moore et al. report the synthesis of stapled peptides for the estrogen receptor/coactivator interaction.
