Professor Norbert Pfeil (pictured left), Falkensee, Germany, received the DECHEMA-Plaque in recognition of his “tireless, voluntary, and extremely successful work” as Chairman of the Board of ProcessNet’s Safety Engineering Section from 2000 to 2013 and as a member of the DECHEMA board from 2007 to 2012. The prize was presented by the CEO of DECHEMA, Professor Kurt Wagemann (pictured right), during a colloqium on risk acceptance and risk communication at the DECHEMA-Haus in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Norbert Pfeil, born February 21, 1949, studied chemistry at the Technical University Berlin, Germany. In 1978, he joined the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung, BAM), Berlin, as a researcher in the laboratory for pyrotechnics. He became group leader there in 1991. In 1993, Pfeil became leader of the division for Reactive Substances and Systems at BAM, and in 1995, he became director of the Department for Chemical Safety Engineering. In 2003, Pfeil was appointed Member of the Presidential Board at BAM.
Among other honors, Norbert Pfeil received the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany) in 2006.
