In this issue, H. Krishna and Q. Li review photoinduced chirality inversion in self-organized helical superstructures. What are the recent developments in the rational design of chiral guests with the capability for light-directed chirality inversion of cholesteric liquid crystals? In a Minireview, F. De Angelis et al. propose the reverse-periscope concept to exemplify the potential of electrospray mass spectrometry to analyze the gas/liquid interface and identify reaction intermediates in solution. The Highlight deals with the record photovoltaic efficiency for non-ruthenium solar cells (J. P. Hill).

In the Communications section, T.-C. Lau et al. show how oxygen can be generated from FeO42− and Ca2+ solutions at pH 9–10 (see picture). A. Marx et al. present modified nucleotides for discrimination between cytosine and 5-methylcytosine, an epigenetic marker. J. M. Shreeve et al. write on the syntheses and promising properties of a dense energetic dinitramino-azo-oxadiazole and its salts.
