Professor Javier García-Martínez, University of Alicante, Spain, and co-founder of Rive Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA, has been awarded the Emerging Researcher Award 2015 by the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Division of Energy & Fuels. The award recognizes distinguished contributions to the field of fuel chemistry and is aimed at scientists who are early or midway into their career.

The prize, which consists of USD 1,000, a plaque, and a ticket to the Division dinner, will be presented at the ACS National Meeting in Boston, USA, on August 17, 2015.

Professor García-Martínez’ research focuses on mesoporous materials and their modification with metal complexes and nanoparticles to improve their catalytic performance and reusability. He works on mesoporous zeolites for refining applications and nanomaterials for catalysis, photocatalysis, and energy storage.

Javier García-Martínez
studied chemistry at the University of Alicante, Spain, where he received his Ph.D. in 2000. From 2001 to 2003, he was a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA. Since 2009, García-Martínez is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and leads the Laboratory of Molecular Nanotechnology at the University of Alicante. He also is co-founder of Rive Technology, Inc., Boston, MA, USA, a MIT spin-off commercializing mesoporous zeolites for catalysis and separation applications.

García-Martínez is a member of Bureau of the International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), vice-chairman of the Emerging Technologies World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders and the Global Young Academy. Among other honors, he has received the European Young Chemist Award by the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS) in 2006, has been named Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2009, and has been awarded the Rey Jaime I Prize in 2014.
