Professor Christian Amatore, Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS), Paris, France, has been elected as a Foreign Member to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). To date, this honor has only been bestowed on 72 foreign scientists across all scientific fields.

Christian Amatore, born 1951 in Sidi-Bel-Abbes, Algeria, studied at Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS), Paris, France, where he received his Doctorat d’Etat es Sciences under the supervision of Jean-Michel Saveant in 1979. He worked as a visiting Assistant Professor at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. Upon being appointed as Directeur de Recherche by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in 1984, he started his own research group at ENS. Currently, he is director of the Department of Chemistry of the ENS and a professor at Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, and the East Normal China University, Shanghai, China.

Amatore has received several awards and honors including the Silver Award of the CNRS. He has been knighted in the French Orders of Meritus and of Légion d’Honneur. He is also a member of the advisory boards of several international scientific journals including ChemElectroChem and ChemPhysChem.

Professor Amatore focuses on the development of new electrochemical concepts and methods for the investigation of extremely complex mechanisms of organic and organometallic chemistry. He has also made important contributions in the theoretical aspects of electrochemistry and in bioanalytical chemistry.
