The first nuclear power station was connected to the power grid in 1954, at Obninsk, Russia. Today, there are 437 nuclear power plants in 31 countries, with an installed capacity of over 372 GW. In 2013, a further 68 plants are under construction, which will add an additional 65 GW to the global capacity.
