The Arnold Eucken Prize of the VDI-GVC (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure – Gesellschaft Verfahrenstechnik und Chemieingenieurwesen, the Association of German Engineers and Society for Chemical Engineering) has been awarded to Dr. Niels Hansen, ETH Zurich, Switzerland (pictured, center, with Dipl.-Ing. Achim Noack, chairman of the VDI-GVC, left, and Dr. Ljuba A. Woppowa, CEO of the VDI-GVC, right). The prize is awarded annually to junior researchers who have shown outstanding technical and scientific work in the field of process engineering. It was presented at the annual ProcessNet meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany, on September 11, 2012, and comes with a € 5,000 prize.
Niels Hansen receives the prize for his doctoral thesis on multiscale modeling of reaction and diffusion in zeolites in which he developed improved catalysts for process engineering. He is currently working as a post-doctoral researcher in the group of Professor Wilfred F. van Gunsteren, ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
