In this week’s Review, A. Teleki et al. discuss the dry syntheses and applications of semiconductor gas sensors. How can dense particulate or porous thin films in the nm-µm range be prepared? The Highlights deal with two-chain insulin, carbon nanotubes as pores, and the detection of carbon monoxide by a color change.

In the Communications section, N. J. Turro, P. G. Schultz et al. demonstrate a new strategy for the photoactivation of GFPs. A. Belik et al. present a series of unusal In-Mn-O perovskites with unusual properties (see picture). A. Alexakis et al. show how aryl alanes can be 1,4-added asymmetrically to trisubstituted enones by means of rhodium catalysis.
